The plan

It was August 2019 and I was in the process deciding what to buy my partner Emer for a special birthday in December. After careful consideration I settled on a trip to New York as she had been talking about this on and off for a while.

When Emer's birthday came around in December we were in Verona, Italy. I had wrapped the airline tickets in the back of a picture of a clock and a square as a kind of puzzle for her to figure out (the clock and square meaning time square). Imagine the surprise she got when she opened the gift which was an odd looking picture, a look of confusion and thoughts of wtf may have come to mind. Emer was over the moon when she realised and found the tickets.

Flight time

Fast forward to January 2020 we set off on our journey to New York. Flying from Europe it is quite easy to get a flight from some of the bigger airports like Schiphol Amsterdam.

Hotel

HGU Hotel New York located at 34 E 32nd Street was our base for the next few days. Centrally situated, five blocks from Madison Square Garden, two blocks from the Empire State Building. A four star hotel, friendly staff, cosy rooms.

Day to day

I can't really explain how much walking we completed but it was HUGE. Each day we were awake early, out the door and scouting for a new breakfast joint. Then off to explore the city all day. Perhaps pictures will tell you more about the amount we crammed into the four days.

More to come...
