All about a positive attitude
Most people would suggest to get through the Covid 19 lockdown you need to wear a face mask and wash your hands. Whilst these suggestions, statements, guidelines or whatever you want to call them are true, the important thing is a postive attitude.
To understand why positive attitude is important, let's first take a look at the meaning of the word itself, attitude. Quite simply attitude is a way of thinking, a point of view, your attitude could be negative or positive in thought depending on how strongly or not you agree with the particular event at the time. For instance, a student may have a positive attitude towards getting full marks in their exam because they have a goal, which is get the highest mark possible. Others may see the exam as a waste of time because their attitude towards it is not important, perhaps they dislike maths or just don't feel it's important.
Just as the maths student feels strongly about her results, I have the same attitude towards Covid-19 and its lockdowns. There are some pretty smart people out in the real world and they can't all be saying the same thing without a point or good reason. Wear a mask, wash your hands, stay at home. Don't take unecessary risks by thinking it's alright to visit a friend to say hi or have a quick drink, it's not. You are putting yourself and others at risk by potentially spreading the virus by making those decisions and not listening to the safety measures put in place by the government.
The end result is about your attitude. If your attitude was negative and something along the lines of "I'm sick and tired of being inside and just want to visit my mates and have a party", the virus has its chance of spreading more easily because of your selfishness. If your attitude was positive like "stay at home, wait for a vaccine, wash your hands, wear a mask and minimize contact" then we have more of a chance to stop the spread of Covid-19 sooner.
Coping with the blues
The world as we know it today is very different than it was this time in 2019. We are all trying to cope with the stress and effect that Covid-19 has placed on us all, I don't care who you are we have all been impacted in some way.
Breathing exercises, physical exercise like walking, running or cycling, eat healthy and most of all talk to others when you start heading in a downward spiral with your thoughts or feelings.
Keep in contact with friends, family using social media, zoom, whatsApp or by some other electronic means (perhaps send them a letter as a surprise?). Don't let the lockdown make you feel trapped just because you have to stay home, embrace life differently, change your attitude to a positive one, we all can make change one small step at a time...
